Americano (Italian: Caffè Americano - American-style coffee) is a method of preparing coffee that involves combining a certain amount of hot water and espresso. There is a popular but unconfirmed belief that this drink was invented in Italy during World War II for Americans as an analogue of the American popular filter drink "regular". What these two drinks had in common was only a large volume and a not very concentrated taste.
